Teaching with Images

Published by felix.kronenberg@gmail.com on

I use a lot of images in my language classes. An unusual picture is a great way to start a class, and photos can convey a more authentic impression of another country than many traditional textbooks can. They can be used for descriptions in the L2, or as vocabulary props. They also are instantly accessible, which is especially useful when the learners don’t necessarily understand everything that is being said.

Here are three of my favorite resources for images and visuals specifically for language learning and teaching:

CAPL: Culturally Authentic Pictorial Dictionary

 Visuals for Foreign Language Instruction

Realia Project

Go check the images out yourself. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words.
